If your grandparents are celebrating a milestone anniversary, like 50 years, you may be planning to throw them an anniversary party. Like any big event, anniversary parties have a lot of moving parts and can be a challenge to plan and organize.
If you have just started to think about putting the anniversary party together, you may be feeling overwhelmed with all of the details you need to consider and all of the to-dos you have to cross off your list.
From large details like how many people are invited and where you will have the party to the smaller details like ordering a cake, there is a lot to plan. Here are some tips on throwing an anniversary party for your grandparents:
Choose a Date and Book a Venue
Table of Contents
These two go hand in hand because your date will limit your venues, and if you have a venue in mind, you may be limited in choosing the dates that are available at the venue. You will obviously want to plan for a date on or close to your grandparents’ anniversary. If their anniversary falls on a weekday, you may end up choosing a weekend, just out of convenience for your guests.
Choose a venue that will comfortably fit the number of guests you are expecting to invite. You may also want to choose a venue that has meaning to your grandparents, like a favorite restaurant or park. If you are on a budget or expecting a smaller crowd, you may even choose a relatives’ home for the party venue. Once you have the date and venue, you can begin planning other details.
Book Vendors
Now that you have a date and a place set, you can begin booking other vendors. The vendors that you need to book independently will also depend on your venue. If your venue provides catering and dessert, you have those covered. If not, you will need to book a caterer and choose a bakery for the cake.
Other vendors to consider, also based on what your venue has available, are table, chair, and linen rentals; tent rental; and a florist, if you are planning on fresh flowers. You may also want to reach out to family if any of them work in the businesses that you are seeking for vendors, to see if they can provide a discount or recommendation.
Design and Send Invitations
While you are researching and seeking vendors, you should also be designing an invitation and creating a guest list. Once your invitations, whether physical or digital, are designed, send them out with plenty of notice so people can save the date of the party.
Book Entertainment
Any party requires some form of entertainment, whether DJ, band, or live musicians. This is another case where you can really take your grandparents’ personalities and preferences into consideration. If your grandparents love classical music, consider a live pianist. If they love the popular music of the decades when they were growing up, consider oldies artists. There are so many entertainment options to really make the party about the guests of honor.
Once you have done these major tasks, you can begin to focus on the even smaller details, like decorations. Your grandparents will be thrilled with all of the energy and love that you put into giving them such a special anniversary.
