Is there a day out with your friends that’s more fun than going to the beach? If there is, we’re not sure what it is. While you might be happy just chilling out on the sand and enjoying a picnic, there are many more ways to make your beach adventures memorable. From relaxed activities such as stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling to white knuckle thrills that you get in parasailing and cliff jumping, there’s nowhere better to go with your mates than the beach. See what water sports you can try in 2022.
In this post, we’ll take a look at seven of the best activities you can enjoy with your friends on a Sunshine Coast beach adventure. Which one will you do first?!
Stand up Paddle Boarding
Table of Contents
Starting a new sport is great on your own, but it’s even better with friends. So why not give stand up paddle boarding a go? This gentle board sport will give your whole body a workout, but it’ll never feel tiring or exhausting. Beginners will enjoy it most on flat waters, while if your group has a bit of SUP experience before visiting, you might take on a challenge like SUP surfing or SUP yoga.
If you’re new to the sport, search out SUP lessons and rental shops at your chosen beach – unless you have your own equipment already!
Surfing
Another hugely popular board sport which can be enjoyed solo or in a group of friends is surfing. You’ll just have to be sure that the beach you visiting has the right wind conditions to get out on your board.
Though this post is about beach activities you can do with your friends, surfing is a great way to meet them if you’re travelling solo. Like paddle boarding, there’s a huge social scene around surfing at many popular beaches, so it won’t be too hard to find and make friends and bond over shared experiences.
Parasailing
If your friendship group has one or two daredevils in there, it’s only a matter of time before one of them suggests parasailing. But what exactly is it? Well, you’re strapped to a parachute, which is then attached to speed boat. As the boat increases in speed, you get higher in the air – sometimes hundreds of feet up in the air. It’s a great way to get a bird’s eye view of the beach and to find out who in your group of friends has nerves of steel.
Since most parasailing trips only last for around 15 minutes, you’ll have plenty of time to catch your breath back on the sand afterwards. To know about Sandy Beaches Near London you can visit gotravelmate.com
Beach Volleyball
If you’re travelling to the beach in a group, why not split into two teams and challenge each other to a game that you can’t play anywhere else – at least not this version of it. Beach volleyball has a different set of rules to regular volleyball – there’s no attack line, the pitch is smaller, and you can play in doubles rather than teams of six. All you need is a ball, so get a rally going and throw yourself head first into this fun sport. You don’t even need to get wet!
Other sports you could enjoy playing on the sand could be beach tennis (that works for couples too), soccer, or baseball/rounders.
Snorkelling/Scuba Diving
Friends that are interested in seeing marine life should consider a spot of snorkelling or scuba diving. If you want to paddle off the beach, all you’ll need is a snorkel and a swimsuit and you could see marine life such as turtles and tropical fish – depending on where you are of course. Those who are looking for more of a challenge should consider scuba diving. Getting deeper into the ocean will enable you to swim alongside sharks, rays, and whales.
Sea Kayaking
Sea kayaking is a great way to explore the coastline in a group with your friends. Kayaks allow you not only to get a workout but also to navigate your way between secluded coves and out to islands off from the beach. Most beaches will have a spot where you can rent a kayak, while places like Croatia and the Algarve have guided tours with locals allowing you to explore the hidden gems that you would never find otherwise!
Cliff Jumping
Let’s end with another sport that will get the adrenaline flowing. Cliff jumping is a great way to bond with old friends and new ones. There are a few safety issues you should be aware of though before you take the leap and feel the wind flowing through your hair for the brief few seconds you’re in the air. Be sure to know how deep the water is before taking your leap, and also that your friend has vacated your landing spot. Though one of the most fun activities you can do at the beach, it can be dangerous if you don’t do it right!
